Should The Old Firm Move to the Premiership??


YES!!!! First of all it would make the league more exciting, there would be two new clubs to challenge the Big Four (Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea), Celtic have shown they can hold their own against some of the biggest names in European Football, Rangers have the Squad and the team to challenge for honours.

No doubt it would damage the Scottish league since they would be losing their biggest Clubs, but it would make the league more "British”, Welsh clubs (Cardiff City, Wrexham) do play in the English league so why not a Scottish one? Obviously it would hit the smaller clubs as they would almost certainly be relegated and clubs from the championship will have to fight that much harder to stay in the premier league. The Big Four would also have a tougher time securing their Champions League Berths ...But heck Increased Competion can only good for the league in general, it would make the league more interesting.

An Interesting point the bigger clubs would look at would be the increased TV Revenue the league stands to gain as it would attract even bigger audiences, more fans would attend matches, imagine Liverpool at the Ibrox, Arsenal at Parkhead, Rangers at Stamford Bridge, Celtic visiting Old Trafford the other clubs would also benefit as now there would be more that just four big teams out of Eighteen that visit them, gate receipts would increase

When these games do occur as friendly matches, spectators from North and South of the border along with the press turn their attention to these games as a patriotic fervour grips both nations. Such a move would then give a boost to a league that is combating a recent drop in fans attending matches as well as the league being too predictable with Chelsea and Man Utd Jostling for the league while Liverpool and Arsenal do provide some competition during the beginning tend to run out of steam by Christmas with the other clubs making up the numbers.

Sadly though regardless of the clubs opinions such a move would require the agreement of both The Scottish and The English FA along with UEFA, so is unlikely that either Rangers or Celtic will be playing in the Premiership any time soon.

why not merge all the british leagues and have a single british team while they are at it?? can't happen, the brits hate each other

Funnh you should say that FF, there were negotiations a few years ago about having a "phoenix League" unting the Welsh, English, Scottish and the the Northern Irish league, and by the way there are welsh teams in the league i.e. Wrexham , cardiff City.

THe reason it fell through was because it would have displaced many teams from the Premiership and the league would have about 100 teams from each country to mange.


A British team would be a nice dream but the selections would be a headache, if it had taken place a few years ago England with ryan giggs on the left might have won the World Cup

EPL is about to start

Ahhh the season is about to re commence again, my my have i missed my football, i had the NBA to keep me company for awhile but once the playoffs were done, it was a really quiet winter (i'm in the southern hemisphere people) , oh and Lance Armstrong's comeback kept me distracted too. New series on the way

This is a series of articles, paying tribute to some of the biggest names in sports management; we have soccer managers, Basketball GM’s, Formula One Race directors and maybe a few other managers from different sports along the way.
