Are The San Antonio Spurs a Dynasty???

The Bulls after thier fifth title in 1997

Bill Russell(NO.6) Leading the celebrations after another title

So the San Antonio spurs have won their 4th NBA title in 9 seasons, and now an interesting debate is taking place, Are the Spurs a dynasty?…PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any Self respecting NBA fan needs to take a hard look in the mirror if they say that the spurs a dynasty, now don’t get me wrong, they are a good team with a great player in Tim Duncan, who is thought of as one of the greatest Power Forwards of all time for his all round game and consistency and they have good payers in French point Guard Tony Parker, Argentinean Shooting Guard Manu Ginobli with effective Role players such a Rob Horry (who by the way has earned his SEVENTH Championship ring, the most by a non Celtics player , and yes he has surpassed legends such as Kareem, Michael Jordan , Magic Johnson). Michael Finley , Brent Barry , Bruce bowen and Fabricio Oberto.

In My opinion a dynasty has three key components firstly, they have to repeat a championship at least once, win more than 5 titles in a span of 10 years and truly dominate the league, as a Fan they do not send the shivers down my spine when I think of them and what they have achieved, they have not dominated the NBA like the Boston Celtics Team assembled during the period of 1957-1969 when led by legendary Center, Bill Russell they went to the finals 12 times in 13 years and were victorious in 11 tries, including 8 years in a row or Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls who three-peated twice in the 90’s (’91, ’92 and ’93 and ’96 , ’97 and ‘98). Now if u listen closely you might hear a long loud howl from Lakers fans Since I left out the Lakers team of the 80’s who were led by Magic Johnson and Kareem, my reasons are simple , while they did repeat a championship and dominated the league for a bit they clearly shared the 80’s with the Celtics led by Larry Bird who notched 3 titles with the odd ones going to the pistons and the 76’ers.

At the turn of the century though the Lakers were on the Verge of being a Dynasty with their superstars Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’ Neal leading them to three straight Championships (’00 , ’01 , ’02) how ever it all imploded due to infighting between the two stars and poor team chemistry they did not make the finals in ’03(won by the spurs) and lost to the Pistons in ’04 , Shaquille O’neal was traded to the Heat and the Lakers have not dominated in the same manner to this day.

So back to the topic at hand, the Spurs have got the team and the players to become a dynasty, winning it 4 times is a testament to that , they have a good coach and their core of Duncan, Ginobli and Parker have a lot more miles in them, and repeating is not out of the question(plus i'd like to see a True Dynasty from the Western Cnference)...BRING ON THE NEW SEASON

The Spurs, A Dynasty or a really good team
that gets lucky every odd year?

I wasn't aware there was a specific criteria to meet in order for a team to be recognised as a dynasty. Is it a general thing or what?

Yes , but it is more of a "standard" developed by fans, pundits and writers, the NBA does not really have a standard , i base mine over a decade there are others who base thier terms over 5 years , 8 years (to validate their claims i suppose)
