Cheating in sports....

Image
Watching the NBA and reading the news on soccer this past week has been a bit a roller coaster ride for me this week. Aaron Gordon's performance in the slam dunk competition, i was so sure he won it, that dunk on the 7'5" Tacko Fall should have sealed it, however it seems fairly certain that Dwayne Wade robbed him...Yep that's right, in my opinion Dwayne Wade robbed my man Aaron Gordon. There is no way, no how he should have lost it, A tie would have been acceptable as well, but relegating him to another loss in the competition is just highway robbery.  Plus this video sealed my opinion that this man was robbed: https://twitter.com/i/status/1229059568686288897 As if that was not enough, the news that Manchester City would be banned for two seasons from UEFA's competitions for financial irregularities, brings in to question the legitimacy of Manchester City's sporting achievements in the recent past and in some aspects ever since the Abu Dhabi ro...

A New Era of Superteams in the NBA?

Image
THe 2003-04 Lakers The latest Superteam in The NBA Gone are the days when superstars would rather play on their own and have a supporting cast around them to win the Championship by themselves, or has it really? we've been hearing a lot of how wrong it is for Dwayne wade, Le Bron james and Chris bosh to team up in south beach, about how wrong it is to have sroo much talent in one team , so much so that it robs other teams of opportunities to compete for a championship, Are you for real?? Looking back at the 2004 NBA Finals, when Shaq and Kobe, two legitimate Superstars recruited Karl Malone and Gray Payton to join them at the Staples center everyone thought they would steamroll thier way to the all time wins record during the regular season and win the NBA finals. What actually happened was they were pushed by Kevin Garnnet’s Timberwolves to 6 games before being Eventually ...

Has Loyalty in Professional Sports become outdated?

Image
Steven Gerrard, Red Auerbach, Ryan Giggs, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson...what do these men have in common? Besides millions stashed away in bank accounts and the honour of being named a living legend? Loyalty, all these players have showed loyalty to the sole club they either joined or were drafted by, Magic Johnson was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1979, until his retirement in 1991 and during his comeback in '96 he only played for them and guided then to 5 championships, rejecting many Lucrative Free Agent Contracts to stay with his team. Larry Bird was drafted by the Celtics and also stayed with his team till he retired till 1992 and epitomized the Celtic cheer...Celtic Pride. Above: Larry Bird Spent his entire 13 year career with the Celtics Today However we see overpaid superstars who rather hold teams to ransom for all that the club can afford and then still have the gall to move on to "greener" pastures when the opportunity arises, now I...

EPL is about to start

Image
Ahhh the season is about to re commence again, my my have i missed my football, i had the NBA to keep me company for awhile but once the playoffs were done, it was a really quiet winter (i'm in the southern hemisphere people) , oh and Lance Armstrong's comeback kept me distracted too. So what happens in this new season, Do the Mighty Red Devils make history and win an unprecedented fourth straight Title, is this the year Liverpool finally win the championship (HA!) or does Chelsea under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti finally regain their championship after three long years? United have sold Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, and their replacements? Antonio Valencia a player who is highly regarded throughout Europe (Real Madrid wanted to sign Him) with no big game experience and has never really played against or excelled against top level opponents and Michael Owen, who in his prime sent a shiver down some of the the best defences of Europe but clearly his b...

Celtics Make it to the Finals!!!

Image
Oh yeah the Celtics's make it to the easter Conference finals and i'm about to sit for my finals!!! man this is not good news for me, do i think The Celtics can make it to the NBA Finals? yes i do, but only if they finally break away game slump and win a game away from the Garden. The Celtics look uncomfortable while playing away from home, which i persoanlly find startling considering they had the best Away record for the NBA and had the best Regular season record. The Celtics have taken a 1-0 series lead and so have the LA Lakers so my wish of a lakers vs Celtics Final could yet come true!!! These two teams have had a lot of history to gether going back to the days of chamberlain vs Russel to Bird Vs Magic and a new rivalry between these two stroied franchises will do much to revive the interest in the NBA. Garnett of the Celtics(R) blocking a shot attempt from Ben Wallace(l) during the Series against the Caviliers

New series on the way

This is a series of articles, paying tribute to some of the biggest names in sports management; we have soccer managers, Basketball GM’s, Formula One Race directors and maybe a few other managers from different sports along the way. The reason? Well I’d like to think that in sports it does not just begin and end with the athlete, no doubt the final result does come down to the athletes’ own effort and commitment, but coaches and managers do have their role to play too, would the Bulls have emerged without Jerry Krause? Do you think Liverpool Football Club would have been an all-conquering Dynasty for 20 years if not for Bill Shankly laying the foundation for Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish to run? Or what About Red Auberach who oversaw 16 NBA championships for the Boston Celtics, first as coach then as GM and finally as team president, I think NOT!!
